Your Superpower
What is your superpower? This is a question that I used to ask myself as a child when I would watch Cartoon Network or read comic books. I would think how enjoyable it would be if we possessed a superpower. Or perhaps, if i could fly or shape-shift. But as i grew up, i began to realize that these childhood stories were stories. we all are just human beings, and this is all children’s fairy tales.
However, something interesting has been happening recently which is a realization that We all actually have some superpower and they’re all different from each other. Just like in X-Men, mutants vary in abilities, and they can all be powerful or not. Similarly, we may have one or two powers, but perhaps we have not yet explored them. We have simply dismissed them as mere personality traits. personality traits, like someone being good at singing, somebody else is good at making friends, somebody else is very patient, somebody else is fast in running. So, we perceive these things in such a way that everyone has their own traits, tendencies, and hobbies. However, we have never thought of turning these traits into superpowers. But why not? What If we think about it as a superpower.
So today, I’m just going to talk to you about this idea that I have, which is ‘ how we can all have a superpower?’ So I’m going to give you a couple of examples from comic books. In X-Men, there is a mutant called Iceman. I think his name was Bobby Drake. When he was a kid and he first found out about his powers, it was very comical—a joke—because he could make some ice crystals. He could just make any coke cold, give somebody a chilled drink, so it was almost like a party trick.
And as he kept growing, he started realizing that he had a little bit more power. Now he could create ice from the air and then throw it—like ice knives, spikes of ice. Then he realized he could cover his own body with ice, and suddenly his skin became stronger. He was able to punch things. And in the comic books, the evolution of Iceman is very interesting because as he keeps evolving and growing, he realizes that it’s not just his skin, but he can convert his entire body into ice, which means water molecules. Then he realizes that he can even dissociate himself into water molecules and use the water or moisture in the air to create a new body for himself. So now suddenly, that old party trick boy is not such a party trick anymore. Now suddenly, he has become a seriously powerful mutant because now it’s almost like he can’t be killed because he will just create a new body for himself. And it doesn’t end there. He keeps growing his powers more and more until he learns that he can change the weather, reduce the temperature of a planet, increase the temperature of a planet, take water out of a planet. This evolution keeps on happening until eventually he becomes what is known as an Omega Level mutant, which is a mutant with godlike powers that basically cannot be defeated.
And when I think of this and I think of how it started, where he just knew how to make ice crystals and put it in a glass of soft drink, I think about how many of us have something that we are a little good at compared to others. Maybe we are a little funny or Good at public speaking but if you don’t take yourself seriously, you might never know what it would look like if that one small trick might one day end up making you into an Omega Level human being.
On a different note, I also got this thought while looking at Avatar: The Last Airbender. In Avatar, each character in the first season didn’t know their own powers. For example, Katara could bend water, and initially, she didn’t know how to bend water. She could just create some ripples in the water. But through the series, she gradually learns that she can make water waves, throw water spikes, and in the third season, she realizes that we are all made up of water, and she learns to bend blood, which is bloodbending, the highest form of waterbending. So even in Avatar, the same concept applies—somebody who has a childish-looking power in season 1, but just because they kept practicing and practicing, eventually they become super powerful and a force to be reckoned with.
Now It’s Your Turn to Become Extraordinary
Now, don’t you think our lives are just like that? Because every stand-up comedian that you admire today, at some point, was just a kid at home cracking some jokes. And the parents or his friends must have thought ‘Oh, he tells good jokes’ and that’s it. And today, they are on stage in front of thousands and millions of people doing what they loved, just because they took their little party trick seriously and became an Omega Level human. And that is true for every single person who has ever achieved anything great. Remember that it all started from a small little party trick. So find out what is your superpower, work on it, and turn into the Omega human being that you can be.
