The Wealth Mentality : How to Think Like Rich People?
In this world, it’s not about being rich or poor; it’s about having a rich mentality or a poor mentality. Money is just a tool, separate money from people, and then pay attention carefully to what I’m going to tell you—it will blow your mind. Naval Ravikant, whose net worth is around 500 crore, says “even if lost everything and was left on the streets of an English-speaking country, i would become rich again within a few years.”
The world’s top 10% control 90% of the global wealth and if all this money were evenly distributed among everyone, including you, means you had as much as Elon Musk, within a few days, it would all return to those who originally had it.
If you don’t have money or are unable to achieve anything in life, the only reason is your mentality. But don’t be disheartened—you just need to shift your mindset. Today, I bring you seven mindsets backed by research and evidence. If you learn them, you will become 101% rich. Because, in the end, your wealth reaches the level of your thoughts and understanding.
1. PHILOSOPHY
Rich people always have a dreams-driven mentality. If I ask you whether becoming rich and earning money is a desire or a determination for you, what would your answer be? You might be confused about the difference between the two. There is a vast difference When things aren’t going well in life, when problems arise, and challenges have to be faced, everyone’s desires tend to diminish. But rich people, and I am not just talking about financially wealthy but those with a rich mentality (Keep this in mind throughout the article)
So for those with a rich mindset, becoming wealthy is not just a desire; it is a burning determination. That’s why, even in tough situations, they don’t stop working hard. They know that if they overcome the difficult times, success will come eventually.
On the other hand, people with a poor mindset are not driven by dreams but by their circumstances. When situations are favorable, they make big promises and start working hard. But as soon as they face challenges or don’t see quick results, they give up and return to where they started.
Becoming rich and achieving greatness should be more than just a desire; it should be a burning determination. In the following points, we will learn how to cultivate this mindset. So does that mean that people with a poor mindset does’nt know that consistency and perseverance lead to success ? Nope, they know this but one thing holds them back and that is.
2. COMFORT
Many individuals with a poor mindset consider themselves overly smart. They adopt a philosophy to escape their problems, believing that “life is short” and thus, they should enjoy it. Consequently, they immerse themselves in video games, parties, reels, movies, web series, smoking, alcohol, and other artificial pleasures. However, these activities serve as an excuse to evade reality. The truth is, they are unhappy with their lives and use these distractions to escape. Ironically, these very activities make their future life uncomfortable.
In contrast, those with a rich mindset choose to experience discomfort for some time each day. They understand that just as fleeting pleasures ultimately lead to suffering, self-chosen pain and discomfort can lead to a fulfilling life in the end. They know that by enduring temporary discomfort, they can achieve true happiness, which is far superior to the false enjoyment derived from superficial pleasures. Comfort zone is deceptive; it keep us unhappy and stressed every day, yet we lack the courage to step out of it. However, if you muster the courage to break free, your future life will become significantly easier.
3. LEARNING
People with a rich mentality are lifelong learners, constantly driven by a thirst for knowledge. They read books, watch interviews, listen to podcasts, attend seminars, view inspirational movies, and follow mentors and mastermind groups to gain insights. For them, learning is a form of enjoyment.
On the other hand, the poor people often hinders their growth. They believe they already know everything and don’t need to learn more. Instead of investing time in learning, they spend it on entertainment like TV, reality shows, frivolous movies, web series, and social media reels, as they have ample free time.
Warren Buffett, at 93, still reads daily. Elon Musk, without an engineering degree, self-studied to build a public company. Self-learning is incredibly powerful; once you grasp this, your life will take a different trajectory. Some people claim they can’t afford books, but as Benjamin Franklin said, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” Ignorance will cost you more through mistakes, lost opportunities, poor decisions, and ultimately, a miserable life. Education isn’t expensive, but not being educated is.
Even Today, education is more accessible than ever. Earning money, learning new skills, teaching, and building a business have never been easier than they are right now.
4. FEAR & FAILURE
People with a rich mindset take swift and decisive actions. They don’t fear failure; instead, they view it as valuable data revealing what works and what doesn’t. If something doesn’t work, they try something else. They believe in the trial-and-error approach: fail quickly, learn quickly, and find what works.
On the other hand, people with a poor mindset either don’t take action or take very little action. They constantly worry, thinking, “What if this goes wrong? What if this doesn’t work out?” Thus they tend to speculate whether something will work or not without even trying. They think, ‘If this doesn’t work, what’s the point of trying?” Thus this fear of failure holds them back.
Remember my friend, without taking action, gaining experience, and gathering data, you’ll be stuck overthinking, never discovering what truly works for you. So, start doing what you have in mind. Keep trying, keep failing, and keep learning, because what you do matters more than what you think you will do.
5. ATTRACT OR CHASE
The book “The Power of the Subconscious Mind” highlights a remarkable point: you cannot attract what you criticize. If you despise money or wealthy people, how can you expect to attract wealth in your life? People with a poor mentality often resent the rich, harboring envy and speaking ill of them. In contrast, rich mentality individuals find joy in observing others’ success. They feel inspired and motivated, thinking, “I want to achieve that too.” They focus on the positive qualities of successful people and strive to learn from them. When you admire successful people instead of envying them, your jealousy transforms into inspiration, which then drives your actions. This shift ultimately attracts success into your life.
6. TIME
For rich mentality individuals, time is more valuable than money. In contrast, for the poor, time is free. Poor people waste hours where spending a little money could save a lot of time and could be better used in other pursuits that could yield a hundredfold benefit in the long term. But no, for them, time is free. limited mindset people focus on how to save money, whereas those with a visionary mindset think about how to save time and use that time to create something valuable. Rich people are willing to spend money, but not time. Even when they are enjoying somewhere, they don’t let that time go to waste; they are constantly generating insights and ideas and learning something new.
7. PATIENCE
When Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are on stage talking, Bill Gates asks, “Warren, your investing philosophy is so straightforward and simple. Why don’t more people become wealthy?” Warren replies, “It’s because, Bill, no one wants to get rich slowly. The biggest flaw in people is their lack of patience. Everyone wants everything quickly.
Whether it’s pursuing an MBBS, a BTech, an MBA, or the time we invest from school to college, we understand that it takes time. We’re not in a hurry there. But when it comes to learning new skills, starting a new venture, or a new business, people say, ‘It’s been two months, and I’m not seeing any results. Why isn’t anything happening?’ Becoming rich is actually very easy if you dedicate time to learning one thing thoroughly. People can understand this, but they don’t want to. That’s why most people fail – because of a lack of patience. The mindset of wealthy people is different. They think, ‘First, I will become capable. I will take action, give it time, and be patient. Then I will achieve success.’ On the other hand, poor people think, ‘First, give me something, then I will do something, will become capable.’
I emphasize this so that it sinks into your mind: ‘Ultimately, the level of your wealth reaches the level of your mindset and understanding.’ Please share in the comments which mindset you have: rich or poor. Also, let us know your score out of 7.
